Baylor University is mourning the death of Tyler C. Cooper, M.D., B.B.A. ’94, a member of the Baylor University Board of Regents and president and CEO of Cooper Aerobics and Cooper Clinic in Dallas. Dr. Cooper passed away last night after a valiant battle with cancer.
“Dr. Tyler Cooper was not only a Baylor Regent, but he was a Baylor parent, a Baylor graduate and a former Baylor champion track and cross-country student-athlete,” said Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D. “As a preventive medicine physician, he was dedicated to helping improve the quality of people’s lives. As a Baylor Regent, he was passionate about the Baylor student experience and the University’s Christian mission. Surpassing all, however, was Tyler’s deep love for his family and his enduring faith in Jesus Christ. The Baylor Family and I extend our deepest sympathies to Tyler’s wife, Angie, and their three children, Clark, Lang and Kai. We are holding them close in our hearts and in our prayers now and in the days ahead as they remember their beloved husband and father.”
Dr. Cooper earned his B.B.A. from Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business in 1994, while competing in the Southwest Conference as a champion track and cross-country student-athlete and team captain in both sports. In 2021, he began his service on the Board of Regents as a BGCT-appointed Regent. He was currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board’s Advancement Committee, where he spearheaded the creation of a Regents Scholarship for Baylor students.
“On behalf of the Baylor Board of Regents, we are heartbroken by the passing of Regent Dr. Tyler Cooper,” said Todd Patterson, B.S. ’90, J.D., founding partner of Patterson + Sheridan law firm in Houston and chair of the Baylor Board of Regents. “For the past five years, Dr. Cooper faithfully served his alma mater, bringing thoughtful leadership to the Board animated by his Christian faith and an unwavering commitment to the University he loved. We grieve this loss and will miss his presence and perspective greatly. To his wife, Angie, and beloved children, we extend our heartfelt prayers, sympathy and support during this difficult time."
Dr. Cooper was serving on the advisory board for Baylor’s Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences. He grew up at the renowned Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, which was founded by his father, Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper. Prior to medical school, he worked abroad and in business development for Cooper Aerobics. He received a Doctor of Medicine from University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 2003 and a Master of Public Health in health care management from Harvard University in 2005. He completed his medical residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia, and at the University of South Carolina.
A preventive medicine physician since 2006, Dr. Cooper oversaw Cooper Aerobics’ seven health and wellness companies, including Cooper Clinic, whose mission is to improve people’s lives through preventive medicine and healthy living.
