Baylor Missions Week Connects Students with Opportunities to Serve
Missions Week showcases pathways for Baylor students to live out their faith through mission trips, internships and long-term vocational ministry
Baylor University Missions, Service and Public Life will host its annual Missions Week Oct. 5-7, welcoming more than 45 global missions organizations to campus where students can learn how God is moving globally and how they can use their faith, academic major or passion in a missional way locally and around the world.
Supported since 2004 by the generosity of Lynn A. and Jacqueline S. Harmon Endowment, Missions Week connects students with various ministry partners and opportunities to serve through short-term mission trips, internships or long-term vocational ministry.
“Whether a student is passionate about health care, engineering, sign-language, linguistics or something else entirely, there is a place for them in the work God is doing around the world,” said Sarah Nelson, assistant director of missions at Baylor. “My hope is that students will take some time to come, explore the opportunities and discover how their own gifts and passions can be part of serving others and joining in God’s work around the globe.”
Nelson said Baylor Missions designs the week to show students that ministry can take many different forms and helps them discover pathways to get involved, whether while walking by an organization’s table on the Vara Martin Daniel Plaza on the way to class or hearing real experiences within missions over a free dinner Tuesday at Bobo Spiritual Life Center.
“We’re bringing those opportunities to students in a way that lowers those barriers and provides an easy entry point,” Nelson said.
Since its establishment in 1983, Baylor’s Missions Week has sought to advance the needs of missions and provide various opportunities for Baylor students to apply discipline-specific expertise to the greatest needs of communities in the neighborhood, nation and around the world.
“I hope every student who comes to Missions Week walks away with a sense that they have something unique to offer. God can use our vocational skills, gifts and passions in so many different ways, and there isn’t just one way to serve. There is a beautiful and creative multitude of opportunities.” - Sarah Nelson, Assistant Director of Missions, Baylor University
