WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2021) – Beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, I-35 construction crews plan to close Dutton Avenue from 4th Street to ML Cooper by the Dutton Parking Garage. This closure will allow TxDOT to continue work to realign 4th and 5th Streets to traditional T-intersections east of the interstate by campus.

Access to the Dutton garage will be maintained from the entrances on ML Cooper and University Parks Drive. Dutton Avenue is expected to remain closed through early 2022.

COMING SOON: 4TH STREET CLOSURE UNDER I-35

Please note that in the coming weeks, crews also plan to close 4th Street where it crosses under I-35 until early 2022 to continue this realignment work.

Prior to 4th Street closing, crews will construct and open the north-to-south U-turn at 5th Street to assist with traffic flow in the area and access to local business on the west side of the interstate. During the 4th Street closure, drivers will be directed to use the northbound frontage road and University Parks Drive to travel westbound under I-35.

The pedestrian path at 5th Street is expected to remain open. However, intermittent closures may be needed, and the existing pedestrian path at 5th Street may be shifted to 4th Street. More information on the 4th Street closure will be shared as work is scheduled.

Schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress. Plan ahead and visit waco4bmap.org for real-time traffic and pedestrian crossing information on I-35 through Waco. Follow @TxDOTWaco on Twitter for the most current updates on construction activities and lane closures.
