WACO, Texas (Jan. 24, 2020) — Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary is hosting the Alongside Ministry Innovation Conference Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25, to invite spiritual leaders to explore innovative and non-traditional approaches to ministry rather than within a traditional pastoral role.
The event is free and open to the public.
“By inviting leaders in areas of co-vocational ministry, entrepreneurship in ministry, nonprofit ministry and more, we are challenging students, the church and our community to envision how broad our ministry can be when we embrace creativity to work alongside and beyond the church,” said Jo Ann Sharkey Reinowski, Truett’s director of academic services and one of the conference coordinators.
The Alongside Conference will feature storytelling and discussions about co-vocational/bi-vocational ministry, entrepreneurship, nonprofit ministry, church planting and supplemental income (or “side hustles”) for students.
Among those making presentations will be keynote speakers Jeremy Courtney, founder and CEO of Preemptive Love, a relief and job-creation community working to end war; and Shannon Hopkins, founder and creative Director of Matryoshka Haus, a collective of entrepreneurs, freelancers, creatives and friends working for hope, justice and restoration to transform the world.
The Alongside Conference will feature three Friday sessions beginning at 1 p.m. On Saturday, attendees will participate in breakout sessions with accomplished practitioners in a variety of ministry fields.
The seminary is located at 1100 S. Third St. on Baylor University’s campus in Waco, Texas.
