WACO, Texas (Oct. 25, 2019) – This week, Baylor University will host guest speakers in a variety of academic disciplines, from chemistry and biology to education and entrepreneurship as well as multiple concerts. Baylor also will host the Dale P. Jones Business Ethics Forum, which engages students, faculty, alumni and business leaders in discussions of major ethical issues facing the business world today.

MONDAY, Oct. 28

Chapel Highlights - David Taylor, professor of theology and culture at Fuller Seminary, will speak during Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.
Cherry Award Lecture - Nancy Fichtman Dana, Ph.D., professor of teaching and learning at the University of Florida and a finalist for Baylor’s Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching, will give a public lecture, “When One Teaches, Two Learn: The Role of Inquiry in Inspired Teaching,” at 5:30 p.m. in Room 101 of Marrs McLean Science, 1214 S. Fourth Street. The lecture will discuss the systematic and intentional study of one’s own teaching practice as key to unleashing the potential that resides within every teacher. Whether helping students learn difficult content or fostering disciplinary investigation and intellectual growth, inspiring teachers inquire into their practices and the students they serve. Lyceum Series: Master Class with Bradley White - Baylor University’s School of Music will host trombonist Bradley White for Lyceum Series recital. White joined the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 2001 and has performed with the San Antonio Symphony, Hawaii Symphony, Houston Grand Opera orchestras, Ambient Brass and the Houston Ballet. Movie Mondays - Movie Mondays will host a screening of “The Real Chernobyl,” a story about the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. TUESDAY, Oct. 29

World Cinema Series - The department of modern languages and cultures will show a screening of “Spirit of Evil,” a Russian horror film about a young priest ordered to preside over the wake of a witch in a small old wooden church of a remote village. The screening will begin at 6 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium, 1420 S. Seventh Street. The film will be shown with English subtitles and is open to the public. Entrepreneurship Guest Speaker: David Sykora - Baylor alum David Sykora, restaurant operator of the Baylor University on Seventh Street Chick-fil-A, will speak at 12:30 p.m. in Room 141 and at 2 p.m. in Room 118 of the Paul L. Institute for Studies of Religion Lecture - Beth Barton Schweiger, Ph.D., will present the lecture “The Rest Are All Singing: Literacy, Print and Sacred Song in the American South.” The lecture will discuss how print was crucial to the creation of black and white sacred music in the South, how revival songs were circulated in pamphlets and hymnbooks before the Civil War and its importance to the history of American culture. Film on Fridays: German - The department of modern languages and cultures will host a screening of the German film “Good Bye, Lenin.” It is a story about a young man who goes to great lengths to keep his mother, who recently came out of a coma, from learning that East Germany has disappeared following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
