WACO, Texas (Nov. 13, 2019) – Baylor University offers one of the nation’s top entrepreneurship programs for students who aspire to launch their own businesses, according to the latest rankings released by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. Baylor’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program in the Hankamer School of Business moved up to No. 5 among the nation’s Top 50 Best Undergraduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2020.
In its profile on Baylor, The Princeton Review/Entrepreneur rankings salute the University’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program for the “great depth and breadth” of its offerings, including majors, minors, certificate programs and a large number of co-curricular programs to meet the needs of its students. It also cites Baylor’s New Venture Competition, which provides entrepreneurship training and expertise to students and practicing entrepreneurs, and the 1846 Business Incubator Program that supports cross-disciplinary teams from across campus as they move start-up businesses forward.
The Princeton Review/Entrepreneur rankings also outline key insights for potential Baylor entrepreneurship students, including:
- 33 entrepreneur-related courses offered,
- 90% of faculty with entrepreneurial experience,
- 900 startups launched by grads in the last five years and
- $370 million in funding raised by graduates in the last five years.
“Baylor has long been a leader in entrepreneurship research, teaching, and outreach,” said Peter Klein, Ph.D., chair and professor in the department of entrepreneurship and corporate innovation. “We were one of the first universities to establish specialized entrepreneurship programs and now feature an undergraduate entrepreneurship major and minor, an M.B.A. certificate in entrepreneurship and innovation, and a Ph.D program in entrepreneurship studies. As entrepreneurship and innovation continue to shape our economy, society and even culture, we are proud to remain on the frontier of understanding and teaching how entrepreneurship works and how to help entrepreneurs thrive.”
The Princeton Review selected the schools and tallied its rankings based on its June-August 2019 survey of administrators at more than 300 undergraduate and graduate schools offering entrepreneurship studies to determine the school lists and rankings for 2020.
“These schools have truly robust offerings in entrepreneurship studies,” said Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's editor in chief. “Their faculties are outstanding. Their courses are rich with in-class and out-of-class experiential components, and the financial and networking support their students receive is extraordinary.”
“The popularity of entrepreneurship has increased exponentially since we began publishing this annual ranking more than a decade ago,” said Jason Feifer, editor in chief of Entrepreneur magazine. “As more future leaders seek out paths to realizing their ambitions, this ranking is a valuable asset they can use in the discovery and exploration process.”
Entrepreneur magazine, The Princeton Review's publishing partner on this project since 2006, posted the ranking lists Nov. 12 on its website at www.entrepreneur.com/topcolleges. The magazine will publish a feature article on the project in its December issue available on newsstands Nov.19.
