Horn Professor To Perform In Faculty Recital

Assistant Professor of Horn Jeffrey Powers will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Roxy Grove Hall.
Powers will be joined on piano by Bradley Bolen, Baylor lecturer in piano, and Chris Wommack, minister of music at First Baptist Church of Woodway.
The program will open with Villanelle, written in 1906 by French composer Paul Dukas, followed by Lyrische Pastorale, written in 1910 by Belgian composer Lodewijk Mortelmans.
Powers also will perform Dutch composer Jan Koetsier's Variations for Low Horn and Piano and Belgian composer Wilfried Westerlinck's Maclou for solo horn.
The program will conclude with German-born American composer Samuel Adler's four-movement Sonata for Horn and Piano.
A native of San Antonio, Powers holds a bachelor's from Austin College and his master's degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music. For 16 years he played principal horn with the Royal Philharmonic of Flanders in Antwerp, Belgium. He also performed as guest principal horn with most of the major orchestras of the Benelux (Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg) region, including the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the Brabants Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia. Powers is principal horn with the Waco Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Waco.
