Hearn Symposium Panels Discuss Contemporary, Congregational Music In Worship
• Billy Ray Hearn Symposium on Christian Music
More than 500 pastors, worship leaders, musicians and others discussed the many issues surrounding "Music and the Church: Relevance in a Changing Culture," during the inaugural Billy Ray Hearn Endowed Symposium on Christian Music held Oct. 7-9 at Baylor University.
Four plenary sessions with major presenters from the fields of church music, academia and the Christian music industry discussed such issues as contemporary worship music, congregational music, youth/Gen X/Y, music and culture, and Christian music in a theological context.
They also heard from George Barna of Barna Research Group, who presented the findings of a national "music in worship" survey commissioned specifically for the symposium.
