by Haley L. Wright
Baylor University's 31st annual bicycle race, Bear Downs, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, on Fifth Street in front of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
The race, designed and sponsored by Student Foundation, is comprised of 13 teams with four members each. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four teams in men's and women's divisions. The winning team receives $500, with the next three teams receiving $350, $200 and $150, respectively. Spectators will also be eligible for door prizes.
A cyclist from each team must complete a minimum of seven laps; however, the laps do not have to be consecutive.
This year, the event will feature a free concert by the band Wideawake on Fountain Mall immediately following the race. Originating from Seattle, the band recently released its second album, "Bigger Than Ourselves."
