Baylor's Concert Choir Performs On March 27

Baylor University's 108-voice Concert Choir will present a program of pieces ranging from the late 16th century to the late 20th century at 8 p.m. Monday, March 27, in Jones Concert Hall. Conducting the program will be John W. McLean Jr., assistant professor of choral activities. Also appearing will be graduate conductor David Rives and accompanists Heather Brown (piano) and Joseph Daniel (organ).
The concert will open with sacred music by George Frideric Handel ("Zadok the Priest"), Thomas Victoria ("O Magnum Mysterium"), Ralph Vaughan Williams ("See the Chariot at Hand"), Tom Scott ("The Creation") and Gilbert M. Martin ("When I Survey the Wondrous Cross").
That will be followed by David Fetler's "In Peace and Joy, I Now Depart" and two pieces by William Mathias--"Let the People Praise Thee, O God" and "Lift Up Your Heads, O Ye Gates."
The Concert Choir will sing three of Maurice Duruflé's Quatre Motets sur des thèmes gregoriens, "Ubi caritas" ("Where there is charity"), "Tota pulchra es" ("You are all beauty") and "Tu es Petrus" ("Thou art Peter").
Closing the program will be Norman Dello Joio's "Come to Me, My Love" (adapted from a poem by Christina Rosetti) and "A Jubilant Song" (adapted from a poem by Walt Whitman).
