Waco Residents Given First Family of Baylor Award
McLennan County Judge Bill Logue, Gloria Shearin Logue, Katherine Logue O'Herren and Helen Logue Carll were honored recently by Baylor University Alumni Association with the 1996 First Family of Baylor Award.
The award recognizes a multigenerational family that has shown continuing interest and support of Baylor. Bill, Gloria and Helen are third generation family members and Katherine is a fourth generation member of the Scott/Logue family's relationship to Baylor. The families that are awarded have attended Baylor for at least two generations.
The Scott/Logue family has been connected to Baylor for five generations. The relationship began with Walter and Mary Morgan Scott. The next generation was started with Maggie Scott Logue, the daughter of the Scotts, who attended Baylor in 1903. The third generation consists of 11 family members all of whom attended Baylor from 1929-1950. Elizabeth Logue Hightower of Livingston, Texas, and Helen Logue Carll of Waco are members of the third generation and are the oldest living members of the family. Tom J. Logue is a part of the third generation and is the oldest living family member with the Logue name still connected to Baylor. The fourth generation consists of 15 people who attended Baylor from 1965-89 and the fifth generation is represented by Allen Ross Hightower III, who is currently a student at Baylor.
The First Family of Baylor Award was started in 1979. The first family honored was the Abner V. McCall family. The name First Family of Baylor came from a club that was active on the campus in the 1940s. The club consisted of direct descendants of Baylor alumni whose purpose was to uphold Baylor traditions, revive old friendships, and provide social contacts for Baylor family and friends.
