Organ Institute Scheduled for June 17-22
Baylor University will host the Organ Institute June 17-22 for students in grades 8-12 and for organ teachers and church organists.
"With reports of a shortage of organists around the country, the Baylor School of Music and I decided to do something about the shortage," said Dr. Joyce Jones, professor of organ, The Joyce O. Bowden Professor of Music and Organist-in-Residence.
During the institute, students will cover as much material as they would during a half semester at Baylor. At the end of 5 days, each student will participate in a recital scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
Baylor organ students also will participate in the institute and will hold recitals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23, in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
Cost to attend the Organ Institute is $275, which includes, dormitory, meals and instruction fees. Cost to commute is $150, which includes instruction fees and lunch.
The recitals are free and open to the public.
