BAYLOR HISTORIC VILLAGE TO HOST SUMMER SAUNTERS
Looking for a summer activity? Baylor University's Summer Saunters could be the answer.
Summer Saunters are special tours of the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village set to begin Sunday, June 16. Various activities will occur at the village throughout the day with the tours being given at 2 and 4 p.m. The saunters also will be held July 6, 14, 27, and 30 with the final saunter of the summer scheduled for Aug. 10.
The village depicts life in an East Texas river town in the 19th century. The summer tours will focus on how people kept cool and dry in the days before air conditioning. Visitors to the village will hand crank ice cream and sample this summer-time treat. Children's games also will be held during the saunters.
According to Debra Reid, curator of the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village, people in the last century typically slowed down the pace of their daily activities to deal with the heat.
Admission to Summer Saunters is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, $1 for students kindergarten through 12 grade.
