Levi Price Jr. of El Paso Named Baylor Regent
WACO, Texas - The Rev. Levi Price Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church of El Paso, recently has been named to the Board of Regents of Baylor University.
Price is a 1964 graduate of Baylor and received his master's and doctorate of divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in California. While attending Golden Gate, he was selected as winner of the Broadman Award which honors the outstanding Bible student at the seminary.
Price has served as pastor of churches in California and on the Southern Baptist Convention's foreign mission board to the Yucatan in Mexico. He has been pastor of First Baptist Church of El Paso since 1985.
He has acted as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention of California and board member of the Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary and the President of Paisano Baptist Encampment. Price also has been a member of the committee on board nominations for the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Evangelism Task Force, Strategy Council and "Here's Hope Texas" task force of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Currently, Price serves as chairman of the advisory board of the George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor.
A former football letterman for Baylor, Price has been involved with Fellowship for Christian Athletes. He is on the advisory council of Prison Fellowship and has been a board member of Hospice of El Paso. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. Price and his wife, Lu, have two children, Timothy Levi and Sara Gloria.
