Christmas Carillon to Be Presented Dec. 6
by Richard Veit
Two students of Herbert Colvin, Baylor University Carillonneur, will present "A Festival of Christmas Music" at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. The performance will take place on the 48-bell McLane Carillon, which is housed in the tower of Pat Neff Hall.
The carillonneurs for this Christmas festival will be Michael Conrady, a junior from Anthony, Kan., and Michael Mucciarone, a junior from Trenton, Fla.
Mucciarone will play two arrangements by Percival Price-"Ring, Sweet Bells, So Merrily" from Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute," and Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." He also will offer arrangements of "Coventry Carol," "It Came upon a Midnight Clear" and "We Three Kings."
Conrady will open his portion of the program with Bach's "Prelude No. 1" and the "Preludio Cou Cou" by Matthias van den Gheyn. Then he will play a Ronald Barnes arrangement of familiar Christmas carols, including "The Holly and the Ivy," "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen," "Come All Ye Shepherds" and "Carol of the Bells." This medley will be followed by William de Turk's setting of "In Dulci Jubilo."
"A Festival of Christmas Music" will conclude with both performers collaborating in a set of carols for carillon duet-"Angels We Have Heard on High," "Away in a Manger," "Deck the Hall" and "Dona Nobis Pacem."
Baylor McLane Carillon was a gift of the Drayton McLane family and the McLane Company, Inc. of Temple. Dedicated on Nov. 4, 1988, it is a massive four-octave instrument which weighs over 22 tons.
This Christmas concert is free and open to the public. It may be heard from anywhere surrounding Pat Neff Hall on the Baylor campus. Printed programs will be distributed on Founders Mall, the grassy area directly in front of Pat Neff Hall. For more information, contact the Baylor School of Music at 755-3991.
