Christina Edelen to Present Harpsichord Recital Nov. 13
by Richard Veit
Christina Scott Edelen, visiting lecturer in harpsichord at Baylor University, will perform French music from the 16th-18th centuries at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, beginning in Roxy Grove Hall.
Edelen, who joined the Baylor music faculty in the spring of 1989, holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the Indiana University School of Music. In 1987 she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue post-graduate study in the Netherlands at The Hague's Royal Conservatory, where her teacher was the renowned performer and recording artist Bob van Asperen.
The Nov. 13 program will feature keyboard works by two members of the famous Couperin family, Louis (his "Suite in D Minor") and François (three pieces descriptive of birds: "Le rossignol en amour," "Le rossignol vainqueur," and "Les fauvetes plaintives"). A pair of bird pieces by Jean-Philippe Rameau will follow, his "Le pappel des oiseaux" and "La poule." Louis-Claude Daquin's "Le coucou" will conclude this set of bird portraits.
Edelen will conclude her performance with the "French Suite No. 5 in G Major" by Johann Sebastian Bach and the programmatic "Suite No. 5 in C Minor" by Antoine Forqueray.
The recital also will include five anonymous French harpsichord pieces that were published in 1531 by Pierre Attaignant.
The appearance by Christina Scott Edelen is free and open to the public. For more information, you may call the Baylor School of Music at 755-3991.
