Catholic Leader Next Effective Preacher to Speak Dec. 4
WACO, Texas - Dr. Walter Burghardt, senior fellow at Woodstock Theological Center in Washington, D.C., recently was named as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world by Baylor University, and he will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Jones Hall of the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
A leader in the Catholic community as well as the preaching community, Burghardt has served as president of the American Theological Society, the Catholic Theological Society of America, the North American Academy of Ecumenists and the Mariological Society of America. A prolific writer, Burghardt has authored nearly 20 books and numerous articles and booklets. He also had his own radio program and has been featured regularly as a speaker on nationwide television and radio programs. Life magazine featured Burghardt in a article titled "Best Easter Sermons."
In February, Baylor named 12 individuals as the most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, according to a worldwide survey. Included in the list, in which seven denominations are represented, are the Rev. Billy Graham, Dr. Charles Swindoll and Dr. James Forbes Jr.
Burghardt's lecture is free and open to the public.
