Baylor Yell Leaders to Perform During Olympic Ceremonies
A group of 12 yell leaders from Baylor University will be among 400 of the nation's collegiate cheerleaders selected to perform during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games July 19 in Atlanta, Ga.
Jeff Bivins, Amy Bourque, Dave Burggraaf, Lisa Carrington, Patrice Fuqua, Aileen Labao, Jonathan Lin, Jason Maggard, Kristen O'Steen, Misty Redfield, Jason Smith and Steven Smith from Baylor will perform during the opening ceremonies televised live on NBC.
The 1996 Olympic Cheerleading Squad was selected through a video audition process which demonstrated the squad's cheering, stunting, jumping and dancing ability. The National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and ceremony producers selected 20 squads out of numerous entries. The collegiate cheer squads will meet as a group for the first time in Atlanta for a two-week extensive training session. The training will include a summer camp hosted by the National Cheerleaders Association and intense rehearsals each day.
