Baylor to Hold Advanced Placement Institute
Baylor University will host the third annual Advanced Placement Institute for high school instructors from July 14-19.
The institute is designed to train instructors to teach College Board Advanced Placement classes designed to qualify students for college credit in core subjects. Institutes will be taught in Biology, Chemistry, English, Language, English Literature, History, Mathematics Calculus, Pre AP High School English and Pre AP High School Math.
The institutes will include teachers who have previously taught advanced placement courses and also those with no previous advanced placement classroom experience.
Each institute will be team taught by a Baylor professor and a high school teacher experienced in advanced placement course work.
The institutes are intensive, subject-specific courses that provide support and training in the teaching of AP courses.
According to Annette Lindsey, director of the AP Institute, 116 teachers will participate. The total cost of registration, room and board for the institute is $500.
Baylor faculty participating in the institute will be Dr. Ray Cannon, professor of mathematics; Dr. Jerrie Callan, lecturer in English; Dr. Daniel Wivagg, professor of biology; Dr. Joan Supplee, associate professor of history; Dr. Charles Garner, assistant professor of chemistry; and Dr. Jude Nixon, associate professor of English.
