Historic Village to Celebrate 19th Century Thanksgiving

WACO, Texas - From 1-5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 25, Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will present Thanksgiving in the tradition of a rural East Texas village in the 19th century.
The landlords' house will be open and visitors can see how a wealthy family celebrated the holiday with a large meal. They can also view the work load of the poorer farmers and sharecroppers who never got a holiday.
Most rural resident traveled short distances to share meals with family and neighbors. Traditional meals included sweat or pecan pies made from nuts in their own trees, turnips and greens from their own gardens and pork from the hogs they raised.
Admission to the Thanksgiving event is $3 for adults, $2 for senior adults, $1 for students kindergarten through college and Strecker Associates are admitted for half price. Baylor students faculty and staff are admitted free with I.D.
