Bsu to Sponsor Hunger Awareness Week Nov. 13-17
The Baptist Student Union will sponsor Hunger Awareness Week at Baylor University Nov. 13-17 with several events scheduled throughout the week.
Pat Bailey of the Waco Housing Authority will speak at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in Chapel-Forum in Waco Hall. She will speak about hunger in Waco as well as the world.
Jimmy Dorrell, director of Mission Waco, will speak at the World Hunger Banquet in the Bobo Baptist Student Center. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m.. A dinner of rice will be served to symbolize what many people are forced to eat because of hunger. The banquet is free, although contributions are welcomed.
The week's events continue with a seminar at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Bill Daniel Student Center. The seminar will feature Dr. Tim McCall, a medical doctor who lived in Nigeria for nearly 10 years. He will speak on his experiences with hunger while in Nigeria.
Dr. Sara Alexander, assistant professor of environmental studies, will also speak about various hunger issues at the seminar.
Education tables will also be in the Bill Daniel Student Center as well as outside the cafeterias in Collins, Penland and Memorial Residence Halls. Students can pick up information covering a variety of subjects related to hunger at these locations.
Love Loaves will also be distributed in all of the residence halls to collect money to fight world hunger. The Love Loaves will be collected on Friday, Nov. 17.
