'Breakfast at Baylor' to Be Held Sept. 26
Baylor University's Department of Continuing Education and the Waco Chamber of Commerce will host a program on "Self Reliance in Modern Society" during the "Breakfast at Baylor" series at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Harrington House on the Baylor campus.
Dr. Peter Beidler, the Robert Foster Cherry Chair for Distinguished Teaching for the 1995-96 academic year at Baylor, will be the guest speaker.
Beidler will describe a course he taught at Lehigh University in which he and 15 students formed a corporation, got a bank loan, purchased a run-down old house near the university and then spent the semester renovating it. "And this was an English course," he now says.
Beidler will show slides that illustrate this unique experiment in introducing college students to real-world issues such as self-reliance, real estate, legal procedures and how to spend the after-tax profits resulting from this venture.
"Breakfast at Baylor" is open to the public. The cost of breakfast is $10 for chamber members and $12 for non-members. Tickets are available from the Waco Chamber of Commerce at 752-6551.
