Baylor History Professor Receives $22,000 Grant

Dr. David E. Mungello, associate professor of history and director of Asian Studies at Baylor University, has received a grant of $22,000 from the New York-based Henry Luce Foundation to help fund an October 1996 symposium on the history of Christianity in China.
The symposium, to be held at Hong Kong Baptist University, will be co-sponsored by Baylor University, the Ricci Institute of the University of San Francisco and Hong Kong Baptist University. The symposium is scheduled for Oct. 2-5, 1996.
According to Mungello, about 150 people from all over the world are expected to attend the symposium. Twenty-five scholars well-known for their work in the history of Christianity will speak at the symposium.
"The symposium will be evenly divided between Chinese and non-Chinese scholars," Mungello said. Translators will be present at the symposium.
This symposium marks the first time that Baylor University has co-sponsored an international meeting on Chinese studies.
