Ard to Present Piano Recital Oct. 2
by Richard Veit
Dr. Michael Ard, associate professor of keyboard studies, will present a faculty piano recital at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in Roxy Grove Hall. The recital will feature music of Franz Liszt, Robert Schumann, Richard Faith and William Duckworth.
Ard has been a member of the Baylor University music faculty since 1968. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Arizona and a master's degree from Indiana University. He earned his bachelor's degree from Morningside College Conservatory of Music, which is located in his hometown of Sioux City, Iowa.
The recital will open with two works from the Romantic period-"Harmonies de soir," the 11th of Franz Liszt's 12 "Transcendental Etudes," and one of Robert Schumann's earliest piano masterpieces, "Papillons" (or "Butterflies").
Ard will play two pieces by his former teacher, Richard Faith-the second of his "Two Nocturnes for Piano" and the "Etude in A Minor."
Concluding the program will be William Duckworth's "The Time Curve Preludes," of which Ard will present numbers one through 12 from book one. "The Time Curve Preludes" were written by Duckworth in 1979 on a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. They will be played during the recital to the accompaniment of a slide show, displaying appropriate colors of the visible spectrum.
This recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor University School of Music at 755-3991.
