WACO, Texas (Jan. 23, 2019) – Baylor’s Mayborn Museum complex hosted its first blockbuster exhibit, “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition,” which helped the museum set record attendance numbers and introduce thousands of new visitors to the natural science and cultural history museum.

WACO, Texas (Jan. 22, 2019) – Baylor University’s Martin Museum of Art will present The Neoclassical Gaze: Myth and Reality of Ancient Sculpture from Jan. 22 through March 8 in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. The exhibition will feature Wilhelm Gottlieb Becker’s Augusteum, a three-volume publication of engravings that illustrate ancient Greek and Roman sculpture.

WACO, Texas (Jan. 22, 2019) - Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 7 PM to 7 AM, I-35 northbound and southbound mainlanes will close as the contractor continues work on the Forrest Street U-turn bridge. BOTH the MLK and University Parks intersections under I-35 will be closed to traffic crossing I-35 during the work. Drivers should plan alternate routes to get from one side of I-35 to the other in this area.

WACO, Texas (Jan. 17, 2019) – Baylor University’s Center for Christian Music Studies in the Baylor School of Music has been awarded a four-year $1.2 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. as part of its Strengthening Congregational Ministries with Youth Initiative.

WACO, Texas (Jan. 17, 2019) – This week, Baylor University will host lectures in a wide variety of academic disciplines, from physics and chemistry to film and digital media, as well as an opera theater performance and the debut of an art exhibit. WACO, Texas (Jan. 15, 2019) – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” To answer his question, people around the nation – including at Baylor University and throughout the City of Waco – will participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 21, and serve in their communities and neighborhoods.

WACO, Texas (Jan. 7, 2019) – Baylor University is mourning the passing of beloved Professor Emeritus of Physics and Master Teacher Robert G. Packard – “Waco’s Mr. Wizard,” as one newspaper called him – who blazed a unique trail for nearly 60 years in how thousands of students related to physics. Dr. Packard died Jan. 5 in Waco at the age of 94.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 16, 2018) – Baylor University today announced the installation of Dennis R. Myers, Ph.D., as the inaugural holder of The Danny and Lenn Prince Chair in Social Work within the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work. The installation was part of the Career Resiliency in Senior Living Leadership Symposium, a conference to provide support and education for licensed nursing home administrators to withstand job stress and pressures.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 14, 2018) - William Cook, Ph.D., professor of applied mathematics and statistics at Johns Hopkins University and a foremost mathematician and authority on the “Traveling Salesman Problem,” will give a public lecture on one of the world’s most intensely studied puzzles at the 11th annual Baylor University Undergraduate Lecture Series in Mathematics.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 13, 2018) – In 1994, Peter Hotez’s daughter, Rachel, was diagnosed with autism. Hotez was troubled by growing narrative surrounding childhood vaccines and autism.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 13, 2018) - Baylor University is mourning the passing of composer, arranger and modern church music pioneer Kurt Kaiser, recipient of Baylor’s 2017 Pro Ecclesia Medal of Service. Kaiser, also holder of an honorary doctor of humane letters from the University and former director of the Baylor Religious Hour Choir, died Nov. 12 in Waco home after a long illness. He was 83.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 9, 2018) – Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary will host Jörg Frey, Ph.D., professor of New Testament at the University of Zurich and one of the world’s leading scholars on Johannine literature, for the Minette and Huber Lelland Drumwright Jr. Endowed Colloquium on Monday, Nov. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 13. The lectures will be held in the Paul W. Powell Chapel in the Truett Seminary, 1100 S. Third St.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 9, 2018) – John Greening, acclaimed poet, critic, editor and teacher, will present “Edmund Blunden, War Poet” for Baylor University’s 2018 Charles G. Smith lecture.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 9, 2018) – The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) South Texas Section has established The Dr. Walter Bradley Polymer and Materials Endowed Scholarship Fund in honor of Walter Bradley, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering in Baylor University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science. The scholarship serves as a tribute to Bradley’s contributions in establishing and ensuring the success of the materials science program at Baylor.

WACO, Texas (Nov. 9, 2018) – A week after launching Give Light: The Campaign for Baylor, the institution’s $1.1 billion comprehensive philanthropic campaign, Baylor University today dedicated the Billy W. WACO, Texas (Nov. 8, 2018) – The Baylor University community will join together for Steppin’ Out, a community service day held each semester to help nonprofit organizations in the Waco community through a variety of service activities from general clean up around the city to major beautification projects. More than 2,100 volunteers from approximately 98 organizations will serve at nearly 70 locations – the largest number of service sites in Steppin’ Out history – on Saturday, Nov. 10.

WACO, Texas (Oct. 1, 2018) – People are currently living in a time scholars identify as a “secular age.”
Douglas Henry, Ph.D., acting dean of Baylor University’s Honors College and associate professor of philosophy, said “secular” can have various meanings all rooted in a loss of religious vitality. In secular times, religious people encounter hostility and persecution yet also may find opportunities presented by secularity, he said.
Baylor University has been actively investigating an allegation that former Board of Regents Chair Richard Willis used extremely offensive and hurtful language in a private conversation in Mexico in 2014. Mr. Willis, who served as Chair from 2012-16 and left the Board in 2017, adamantly denies making the statements.
