Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science Earns ABET Accreditation
Global accrediting leader fully approves Baylor engineering and computer science programs for meeting standards that prepare graduates for success

Baylor University undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering in the School of Engineering and Computer Science have been accredited for the full six-year period, the maximum duration allowed, by ABET, a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified quality assurance organization.
Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance. ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
For Baylor’s engineering and computer science programs, the ABET accreditation is a powerful affirmation of the excellence of these academic programs and the dedication and commitment of the School’s faculty and staff. The approval also underscores the University’s imperative in the Baylor in Deeds strategic plan to grow engineering enrollment and research endeavors to prepare graduates for high-demand jobs in Texas and beyond, bringing a voice of influence to the table in solving global challenges.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
The achievement reflects the focused work on the accreditation process by ABET program chairs Bill Booth, Ph.D. (computer science), Byron Newberry, Ph.D. (mechanical engineering), Benjamin S. Kelley, Ph.D. (engineering), and Mike Thompson, Ph.D. (electrical and computer engineering), and department chairs Jean Gao, Ph.D. (computer science) and Jeong Bong (JB) Lee, Ph.D. (electrical and computer engineering), and former department chair Paul Ro, Ph.D. (mechanical engineering), who provided leadership and oversight throughout the accreditation process. Pack lauded all the faculty and staff members who contributed to the self-studies, prepared for the visits, participated in the reviews and supported the process from technology support to preparing and submitting the post-visit responses.
Innovation, research, career success
Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science offers Ph.D., master’s and undergraduate degrees, as well as graduate certificate programs, and stands out for its caring and collaborative community, excellent faculty, hands-on learning and undergraduate research opportunities with world-class Baylor researchers in the discovery of new knowledge at the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative. Students also use their technical skills to serve communities worldwide through mission-oriented organizations such as Engineers with a Mission, Computing for Compassion and Build at Baylor.

According to the latest graduation data for Spring 2025, Baylor ECS students who earned engineering and computer science degrees achieved a 93% Success Rate. This means in-demand Baylor graduates were hired with an average salary of $84,000 by some of the nation’s top companies, including those located in the fast-growing Texas Triangle, were accepted at graduate schools across the country and earned competitive internships.
In addition to the ABET accredited programs, Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science offers multiple degrees in emerging fields, including aerospace engineering, AI+, aviation sciences, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, cybersecurity and data science. Aerospace, biomedical and computer engineering are in line for future ABET accreditation reviews.
