Baylor Law to Host People’s Law School on Feb. 14

Baylor Law School will host its annual People’s Law School on Saturday, Feb. 14, offering Central Texas residents a free, half‑day program designed to provide practical, accessible legal education. The event is open to the public and will be held at Baylor Law School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

People’s Law School features a series of one‑hour courses on practical legal topics taught by attorneys, legal experts and Baylor Law faculty. Participants may select courses covering topics such as wills and estate planning, divorce and child custody, landlord‑tenant law, insurance issues, tax fundamentals and First Amendment considerations in the digital age. Sessions also include guidance on navigating car accidents, personal rights and even preparing for the law school admissions process.

Organizers say the event reflects Baylor Law’s long-standing commitment to community service by helping individuals better understand the legal issues that affect their daily lives.

SESSION 1 | 9:15 – 10:15 a.m.

SESSION 2 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

  • Prosecuting Sexual Crimes, Homicides, and Other High-Profile Cases
  • Understanding How State Agencies Affect Your Life
  • Wills and Estate Planning
  • Your Roadmap After a Car Wreck
  • The First Amendment and the Internet
  • Navigating Special Education: Your Rights and the District’s Duties

SESSION 3 | 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Courses include:

  • Insurance Law: What Coverage You Thought You Had but Didn’t Get
  • Know Your Rights – Law Enforcement Interactions
  • Elder Law
  • Landlord/Tenant Law
  • Prosecuting a Dangerous Criminal in Central Texas
