The Waco Regional Baptist Association WMU and Women’s Ministry, in partnership with First Baptist Church Waco, George W. Truett Theological Seminary and the Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society at Baylor University, will observe the 2026 Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer with a program and brunch on Saturday, Feb. 7, at First Baptist Church Waco.
Merritt Johnston, executive director of Baptist World Alliance Women and director of communications and media for the Baptist World Alliance, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Additional program participants include Baylor’s Mia Moody, Ph.D., professor of journalism, public relations and new media, and Cheryl Gochis, vice president for human resources and chief human resources officer. Dodie Morris will coordinate the music, and women from around the globe will lead prayers for their home continents.
Held annually as part of the worldwide Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer, the brunch provides an opportunity for area women to join voices in prayer with sisters worldwide.
“In 1948, Baptist women in Europe held a Women’s Day of Prayer as ‘a means to reunite Baptist [women] separated by the pain and devastation of war’ and to strengthen spiritual bonds for the future,” said Kathy Hillman, director of the Keston Center and event co-coordinator. “Two years later, upon the founding of Baptist World Alliance Women, the day of prayer spread from an initial 21 countries to more than 150 today. Inspired by 1 Thessalonians 2:8, we chose ‘What Joy! Living the Good News!’ as this year’s theme. The joy of encouragement and the impact of the prayers over the last 75+ years cannot be measured.”
The event is open to women and girls from across McLennan County and welcomes all denominations. Although the brunch is complimentary, email Kathy_Hillman@baylor.edu to reserve a spot.
