WACO, Texas (Jan. 20, 2025) - National Weather Service forecasts that Waco, McLennan County and Central Texas will experience freezing temperatures Monday night, Jan. 20 through Wednesday, Jan. 22, but emergency management officials do not anticipate dangerous travel conditions at this time. Make sure to check the local weather conditions if you will be traveling to other areas.

Wind chills are anticipated to be between 5° and 15° during the late night/early morning hours through Wednesday with temperatures rising to above freezing during the daytime hours. Current National Weather Service models show possible light snow across parts of Central Texas Monday night into early Tuesday. At this time, the University does not expect any adverse road conditions or disruption to the first day of class on Tuesday based on information from the National Weather Service and Texas Department of Transportation.

Campus preparations by Baylor Facilities are already underway, such as adjusting building temperatures and airflow, prepping sidewalks and parking garages, draining water reservoirs and dripping faucets.

Please remember to:

  • Cover all exposed skin when going outdoors (including hats, scarves and gloves) to protect yourself from cold-related injuries such as hypothermia.
  • Remember the Four P’s: Take care of people, pets, plants and pipes.
  • Although icy conditions are not expected, be cautious on roadways and sidewalks.
  • Plan your travel ahead of time and monitor local weather conditions, which may change.

As the University monitors the weather in the Waco area, any modifications to University operations will be communicated on the Baylor website, Baylor Alert email/text messages and official Baylor social media, including FacebookInstagram and X (Twitter).
