Weather Update - Burleson tower in front of a dark stormy sky

The frigid temperatures are back this week with the National Weather Service issuing an Extreme Cold Warning and a Cold Weather Advisory beginning tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 18) and continuing through Thursday morning (Feb. 20) for Waco, McLennan County and the Central Texas area.

Here’s what we know as of today (Tuesday, Feb. 18):

  • Temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday mornings will range from the single digits to lower 20s, with extremely cold wind chills anticipated to be between -10 and 10.
  • Temperatures will stay below freezing until Thursday morning with the extreme cold lasting through Friday morning.
  • Current National Weather Service forecasts do not include wintry precipitation in our area.
  • At this time, the University does not expect any adverse road conditions or disruption to University operations or classes, based on information from the NWS and the Texas Department of Transportation. Check local weather conditions if you will be traveling to other areas

Campus preparations by Baylor Facilities are already underway, such as adjusting building temperatures and airflow, prepping sidewalks and parking garages, draining water reservoirs and dripping faucets.

Please remember to:

  • Cover all exposed skin when going outdoors (including hats, scarves and gloves) to protect yourself from cold-related injuries such as hypothermia.
  • Remember the Four P’s: Take care of People, Pets, Plants and Pipes.
  • Although icy conditions are not expected, be cautious on roadways and sidewalks.

Plan your travel ahead of time and monitor local weather conditions, which may change.

As the University monitors the weather in the Waco area, any modifications to University operations will be communicated on the Baylor website, Baylor Alert email/text messages and official Baylor social media channels, including FacebookInstagram and X (Twitter).
