The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is ramping up work on the My35 Waco South project to reconstruct the final three-mile portion of Interstate-35 – including the mainlanes and frontage roads – from South Loop 340 to 12th Street in Waco. Anticipated completion of this project is early 2029.
Overnight Mainlane Closures: What You Need to Know
During the overnight hours tonight through Sunday, June 8, TxDOT is closing the left inside lane on both the north and southbound I-35 mainlanes from South Loop 340 to 8th Street.
WHEN ARE THE OVERNIGHT CLOSURE HOURS?
Overnight closures take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday, June 6, 2025. NOTE: On Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, these overnight closures will extend until 10 a.m.
WHEN WILL ALL LANES BE OPEN?
Crews expect to reopen all lanes by 6 a.m. each morning, and by 10 a.m. on June 7 and June 8.
WHY ARE THEY CLOSING LANES?
The lane closures allow crews to safely remove the center median barriers to prepare for the upcoming major traffic shift. During the overnight closure period, the north and southbound mainlanes will be reduced to two lanes in each direction.
While traveling through this area, please follow all directional signage and watch for crews and equipment in the work zone. Traffic delays could occur, and motorists are advised to plan accordingly and take an alternate route.
Plan Ahead and Stay Informed
This work is in preparation for reducing all traffic to two lanes in each direction and shifting all northbound traffic to the southbound mainlanes. The traffic shift will allow space for the full reconstruction of northbound I-35. The traffic shift is expected to occur in early summer, and more information will be shared as schedules are confirmed.
Schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress. Information on construction and anticipated traffic impacts will be shared as work is scheduled.

About the My35 Waco South Project

- Reconstructing overpasses and frontage roads, extending frontage roads where discontinuous, re-aligning ramps and adding sidewalks.
- Updating access roads and access points from local streets, on-and-off ramp configuration and placement, build new bridges and improve traffic control.
- Construct an innovative Diverging Diamond Intersection at I-35 and Valley Mills Drive.
- Realign ramps and add sidewalks.
