Departments across campus sponsor WHM events and increase community involvement

Baylor University celebrates Women's History Month with a series of events.

Baylor University will celebrate Women’s History Month (WHM) with a series of events throughout March for the Baylor and Waco community to learn more about women’s historic and modern-day contributions.

Most events are free and open to the public, although some have RSVP or registration requirements. 

  • Monday, March 3, 2025 – Carillon Recital for Women’s History Month, Noon, McLane Carillon in the tower of Pat Neff Hall. University Carillonneur Lynnette Geary presents a recital honoring Women's History Month, sponsored by the School of Music. 
  • Tuesday, March 4, 2025 – Breakfast Celebrating the Teaching and Research of Baylor Women Faculty, 8:30 to 10 a.m., Foster 250. Hosted by the Office of the Provost, this networking opportunity celebrates the accomplishments of Baylor’s women faculty and staff. RSVP is required.
  • Wednesday, March 5, 2025 – Women’s History Month Roundtable, 4 p.m., Morrison Hall, room 100. Hosted by the Department of History, this event features a panel discussion with four faculty history members who will offer insights from their scholarship on women’s historical contributions. 
  • Tuesday, March 18, 2025 – W.E.B. Du Bois and The 100th Anniversary of The Gift of Black Folk: Freedom of Womanhood, Noon CST via Zoom webinar. This event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the University Libraries and multiple departments. Register here.
  • Monday, March 24, 2025 – Learning from Women on the Margins, 5 p.m., Schumacher Flex Commons, University Libraries. Sponsored by the Diana Garland School of Social Work, this lecture features Kat Armas, author of “Sacred Belonging: A 40-Day Devotional on the Liberating Heart of Scripture.”
  • Tuesday, March 25, 2025 – Sacred Belonging Lunch and Book Club, Noon, at the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, 811 Washington Ave. The luncheon features Kat Armas, author of “Sacred Belonging: A 40-Day Devotional on the Liberating Heart of Scripture” will lead a book discussion with lunch provided. RSVP is required. 
  • Thursday, March 27, 2025 – Lunch and Learn: Her Story: Celebrating Women Who Inspire Change, 12:30 p.m., Beckham Room, Bill Daniel Student center, hosted by the Department of Multicultural Affairs. Registration is required. 
  • Thursday, March 27, 2025 – Waco’s Latina Changemakers, 6 p.m., Mayborn Museum Auditorium. This panel discussion features prominent Latina women from the Waco community who are making a difference, sponsored by the Baylor Latinx Faculty and Staff Association (LFSA) and the Jackson Family Chair for Baylor in Latin America.

“Women’s History Month events align with the Women’s and Gender Studies mission to highlight the intellectual, artistic, political, social, economic and spiritual contributions of women,” said program director Theresa Varney Kennedy, Ph.D., director of the Women’s and Gender Studies and professor of French at Baylor. “By offering these educational and collaborative opportunities, we can inspire future generations of women to enact positive change in their communities. It also enhances the visibility of the program and underscores the importance of interdisciplinary studies and collaboration with other departments. These events provide platforms for students and faculty alike to engage with critical issues, fostering a deeper understanding of women’s roles across the disciplines.”
