RECORDS Nashville/Columbia breakout singer-songwriter-guitarist Ty Myers will headline Howdy at the Hurd, hosted by Pi Beta Phi and Baylor University, a free students-only event at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, outside the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center.

A tradition at Baylor since 1962, Pi Beta Phi's All University Howdy serves as the “first official Texas welcome to campus” for all students. As students don their best western boots and hats, they will experience all the elements of Howdy from local food trucks and vendors, line dancing to longhorn cattle and even a Ferris wheel. Myers’ concert and a spectacular drone show will round out Howdy, an event that benefits Pi Phi’s philanthropy, Read>Lead>Achieve, which promotes and encourages children’s literacy.

“It’s so special to be able to work with Baylor to create such a unique event that not only welcomes our students back to Texas and campus but also raises funds for a higher cause,” said Kiera White, Howdy chair for Pi Beta Phi and a Baylor senior. “As students, we are so lucky to be in continuing education where we get the freedom to learn and grow, yet we recognize that not everybody gets that opportunity. Howdy and Pi Beta Phi work to advocate for and raise funds for Read>Lead>Achieve, and because of the support Howdy draws, we are able to help more kids pursue education and be prepared for success. We are so grateful to Baylor and our partners for helping make this year’s Howdy an unforgettable experience for students with music, games, food and the goal of changing the lives of children through literacy and the love of reading. We can’t wait to see all y’all out at Howdy on Sept. 19!”

Myers will take the stage in the middle of Dutton Avenue adjacent to the Hurd Welcome Center at 8:30 p.m. His 90-minute set will be followed by a drone show conducted by Sky Elements, the largest drone show provider in the United States. Sky Elements has amassed 13 Guinness World Record titles and its team was a recent finalist for America’s Got Talent.

“We are incredibly excited to bring Ty Myers to Howdy at the Hurd and back to the Waco area on the big stage,” said Jason Cook, Baylor vice president for marketing and communications and chief marketing officer. “Myers is a Texan whose career has skyrocketed up the country charts. He’s a perfect fit for Howdy as we welcome a new class of students to Texas and celebrate the start of a new school year with all of our Baylor students.”

Born just outside of Austin, 17-year-old Ty Myers grew up on a cattle ranch owned by his family for more than six generations. Today, Myers is quickly commanding attention after delivering his acclaimed debut album, “The Select” (and the “Deluxe” and “Acoustic”), which earned his first RIAA certification for the GOLD hit single “Ends of the Earth” and produced another Billboard Hot 100 song in “Thought It Was Love.” Myers first created a buzz with his debut single “Tie That Binds” in 2023.

With his latest single out now, the soulful storytelling “Leaving Carolina,” Myers has already racked up 152 million+ global streams (for “Ends of the Earth”) and notched an impressive 636 million+ global streams to date (boasting 20 million+ global streams per week). Inciting heartthrob-level pandemonium on the road, the fast-rising phenomenon has completely sold out his 66-date The Select Tour through the fall. The follow-up to his first sold-out headline run, he has supported stages for Willie Nelson, Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers Band, among others.

The Billboard Country Rookie of the Month also has been featured in their high-profile 21 Under 21 all-genre list, in addition to being spotlighted as Apple Music’s Country Riser of the Month and hailed as an “Artist to Watch” by Spotify, Pandora, GRAMMY.com and more.

Ty Myers joins country superstar Bailey Zimmerman among recent Howdy performers, as well as a growing list of top artists playing just across Interstate 35 at Foster Pavilion, including Grammy nominee and double Dove Award-winner Forrest Frank, two-time Grammy winner Lauren Daigle (Sept. 12) and legendary comedian and Baylor alum Jeff Dunham (Oct. 3), with more top artists to come.
