Baylor University today officially launched the Extend the Line Scholarship Initiative, which aims to raise $250 million by 2030 for student scholarships to help ensure a Baylor education remains accessible and affordable for both current and prospective students.
“The Extend the Line Scholarship Initiative is an invitation for the Baylor Family and friends to support today’s students and future Baylor Bears, connecting the Baylor Line across generations in celebration of the University we love,” President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., said. “I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity to Extend the Line through scholarships that will pay dividends in the lives of students who will lead and serve in our world for generations to come.”
The Extend the Line Scholarship Initiative will strengthen ongoing affordability efforts by securing funds that provide the University with greater flexibility to address student needs. Donors can support Extend the Line in multiple ways, including giving to existing general scholarship funds across the University, establishing new named single-year or multi-year expendable funds or even endowing funds that cover full-tuition scholarships.
“Over Baylor’s 180-year history, donors from across the Baylor Family – alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the University – have answered the call to come alongside in support of Baylor students,” said Jason Diffenderfer, vice president for university advancement. “We ask them to join us today in this effort to ‘Extend the Line’ and prepare our students for lives of service and leadership well into the future.”
Value, Affordability and Completion is an imperative woven throughout the University’s new strategic plan, Baylor in Deeds, and the Extend the Line Scholarship Initiative is one demonstration of that imperative. Furthermore, affordability remains a top priority for the Baylor Board of Regents, which affirmed the new scholarship initiative during its regular February meeting.
Baylor offers a unique combination of Christian faith, research and educational experiences that draws students from across the world. For the third year in a row, U.S. News‘ rankings placed Baylor among a prestigious short list of schools – along with schools like Duke, Michigan, Princeton, Stanford, Yale – to make its top 30 for both undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research. Baylor was ranked No. 26 nationally for undergraduate teaching and No. 23 for undergraduate research/creative projects. No other Texas school made the top 30 in both categories. Baylor also is the only school with an explicit, primary identity as a Christian university to make both lists.
