This fall, Baylor University is joining universities and communities around the country to increase public awareness and prevention education about sexual assault and interpersonal violence as the Equity, Civil Rights, & Title IX Office brings awareness to The Red Zone.

The period between the beginning of the fall semester and Thanksgiving break is often referred to as The Red Zone, a time when a majority of college campus sexual assaults occur. By bringing awareness to this time frame, the Equity, Civil Rights, & Title IX Office hopes for students to make informed decisions while also knowing what resources are available to them.

Throughout the month, yard signs will be posted at different emergency “blue light” call boxes across campus that will contain resources and information about a variety of topics like consent, healthy relationships, boundaries and more. Students can check in at each sign by using the QR code provided on the sign and be entered to win a giveaway.

Additionally, the Equity, Civil Rights, & Title IX Office will host a tabling event from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, on Fountain Mall, where students can learn more about The Red Zone as well as October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Prevention education is a vital part of the work done by the Equity, Civil Rights, & Title IX Office. By teaching students about healthy relationships along with different practices (like how to be an active bystander), they are better prepared to interact with others and create safer communities.
