The “best hour of the week” – Baylor University’s Dr Pepper Hour – is kicking off year four of its highly lauded Dr Pepper Hour Tour, delivering sweet treats and a VIP Baylor experience to high school students and Baylor Alumni families across the country. The five-week fall tour stays mostly close to home, with four weeks in Waco and one out-of-state trip to Boulder, Colorado, in the mix.
The Dr Pepper Hour Tour – the mobile iteration of Dr Pepper Hour, a beloved Baylor University tradition since 1953 – spends the first three weeks of the fall tour in Waco, beginning with the Huddle at the Hurd event on Friday, Aug. 30, at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center on Baylor campus. The tour will stay on campus on Saturday, Aug. 31, for Baylor football’s season opening game versus Tarleton State, serving floats to Baylor fans at McLane Stadium’s Touchdown Alley.
“We wanted to bring this legendary Baylor treat – a true taste of the Baylor campus experience – to prospective students and our Baylor Alumni families,” said Jason Cook, Baylor’s vice president for marketing and communications and chief marketing officer. “It’s such a unique tradition and an innovative approach to connecting with the Baylor Family; where else do students enjoy free ice cream with their friends every week of their college experience?”
A custom Baylor and Dr Pepper-branded truck and trailer, which received a recent rebranding and revamping after three years of service, will cover the five-week fall tour, running Sept. 7-28. The caravan will continue throughout the month with stops at local high schools announced weekly.
In addition to upcoming home Baylor football games versus Air Force (Sept. 14) and BYU (Sept. 28), the tour will stretch its legs to Boulder, Colorado, welcoming a former founding member school back into the Big 12 when the Bears face Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 21. Before the Bears-Buffs weekend game, the tour will make stops in Aurora, Colorado, at Regis Jesuit High School on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Denver’s JK Mullen High School on Friday, Sept. 20.
The six-week spring run will stretch the Baylor brand into some new stomping grounds for the tour, trekking to Seattle; San Jose, Los Angeles and San Diego in California; and Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona, before returning to Texas with a stop in El Paso.
At each stop, the trailer will create an authentic Baylor experience, including Baylor signage, Baylor Admissions counselors and a limited supply of Dr Pepper float kits. Each guest will be provided a Baylor-branded cup, ice cream and a can of Dr Pepper to help recreate the trademark on-campus gathering that Baylor students, faculty and staff continue to celebrate each week. Additional Baylor merchandise and giveaways will be available, while supplies last.
