Baylor University today is celebrating National Research Administrator Day to highlight top-tier research throughout the University. Baylor is one of just 39 private universities recognized as Research 1 by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education and stands distinct as a preeminent Christian research university. Faculty across campus engage in high-level research addressing significant global challenges, and the University has adopted National Research Administrator Day as an annual celebration of that impact.

This year’s theme, Baylor in Deed, aligns with a broader University campaign highlighting the ways in which professors, students, alumni and more live out the Baylor mission through efforts that serve neighbors close to home and around the world.

“One of the great joys of this exciting time at Baylor is to see the incredible ways our faculty and students demonstrate God-given gifts and passions through research. Their work and its impact exemplify the Baylor mission in action,” Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., said. “National Research Administrator is an opportunity to celebrate all who play a role in Baylor research –administrators who provide invaluable support behind the scenes, and our research faculty, staff and students themselves.”

To celebrate, Baylor has taken over digital billboards in Dallas, Houston and Waco along with ads in the Texas Tribune, and has shared content through Baylor social media channels, including FacebookTwitterInstagram and LinkedIn. These pieces highlight just a few of the many faculty whose interdisciplinary research embodies Baylor in Deed in areas that promote health and wellness, clean water, new technologies, musical preservation and more:

  • Paul Allison, Ph.D., professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Point-of-Need Innovations Center
  • Stephen Newby, Ph.D., The Lev H. Prichard III Endowed Chair in the Study of Black Worship
  • Liela Romero, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry and Cancer Prevention Network of Texas Scholar
  • Thad Scott, Ph.D., professor of biology and director of the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research
  • Renée Umstattd Meyer, Ph.D., professor of public health and associate dean for research, Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences

Led by the National Council of University Research Administrators, National Research Administrator Day is observed annually on Sept. 25 to recognize the contributions made by research administrators and managers throughout the year. These individuals assist faculty and researchers, protect the institution or organization, assure sound stewardship of sponsored research dollars and more. Baylor has expanded resources available to support faculty in recent years, including growth in research staff. These roles are an important piece of the University’s systemic research growth.
