Baylor University will confer degrees on more than 970 graduates during August Commencement, which includes the traditional Saturday ceremony for undergraduate and master’s students and the debut of a new commencement tradition – an exclusive Friday ceremony honoring Baylor’s growing number of research doctoral graduates.

Friday Doctoral Commencement Ceremony

Reflecting the rise of Baylor as a Christian Research 1 institution, the inaugural doctoral commencement ceremony celebrates the significant academic accomplishments of more than 130 doctoral graduates earning the Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D. and D.Sc. The ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, in the Ferrell Center.

The ceremony will include the elements of a traditional commencement: a ceremonial procession of doctoral candidates and faculty, remarks from campus leaders, individual doctoral hoodings by the candidates’ faculty mentors and the conferral of degrees by President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., assisted by Provost Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D., and Graduate School Dean Larry Lyon, Ph.D. A reception will follow for the graduates, their families and mentors.
