WACO, Texas (Dec. 15, 2023) – Gray Media Group and KWTX Television will broadcast an encore presentation of “A Baylor Christmas,” recorded in 2021 from the performances of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra and combined choirs of the Baylor University School of Music. The Christmas concert special will air on Gray Television stations in Texas and 23 other states during the holidays.

Check local listings at the station list below for broadcast dates/times, which are subject to change. "A Baylor Christmas" is available for viewing on Baylor’s official YouTube channel.

The annual concert, which has heralded the arrival of Christmas at Baylor for a half century, features the talents of more than 400 Baylor students and faculty. Although there was no audience for the concert in fall 2021, KWTX Television captured a full performance of “A Baylor Christmas,” featuring the brilliant voices of the Baylor Combined Choirs, the talented musicians in the Baylor Symphony Orchestra and the Baylor Bronze Handbells resounding throughout Jones Concert Hall as they performed traditional favorites.

“During the pandemic, we realized that we all needed the beauty of music in our lives, especially at Christmas,” said Emeritus Professor Lynne Gackle, Ph.D., director of choral activities, professor of ensembles and The Mary Gibbs Jones Chair in the Baylor School of Music. “The producers at KWTX have produced a truly exquisite production. We need joy in our lives, and the Christmas season reminds us of the true Reason for our unending Joy.”

“A Baylor Christmas” opens with the Baylor A Cappella Choir and Baylor Concert Choir proclaiming the birth of Christ with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” arranged by Dan Forrest, followed by the Baylor Women’s Choir performing “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Kelly-Marie Murphy and the Baylor Concert Choir returning for “Jul, Jul,” based on “Jul, Jul Strålande, Jul” by Gustav Nordqvis as arranged by Chris De Silva.

The Baylor Symphony takes the stage for “Farandole” from L’Arlesienne Suite by Georges Bizet. The Baylor Bronze Handbells next perform “Silent Night” arranged by Betty Garee, followed by the Baylor Men’s Choir and Baylor Women’s Choir joining the Baylor Symphony Orchestra for Michael W. Smith’s “All Is Well” arranged by Daniel Semsen, the Baylor Men’s Choir performing “A King Is Born” by Sy Goreib as arranged by Tim Sarsany, and Baylor Bella Voce singing “Breath of Heaven” by Amy Grant and Chris Eaton as arranged by Craig Courtney.

Baylor Bronze returns for “Carol of the Bells” by Mykola Leontovych, arranged by Alex Guebert. The Baylor A Cappella Choir then joins the Brass Ensemble for “Yeoman’s Carol” by Simon Phipps. The concert concludes with the Baylor Symphony Orchestra performing “Silver Bells” by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, arranged by Charlie Brown, followed by all Baylor Choirs joining the Symphony for the traditional “Sing the Carols of Christmas,” arranged by Gary Fry.

KWTX Television records the performance of “A Baylor Christmas” every two years. This year’s concert, in front of a sold-out audience in Jones Concert Hall, will make its broadcast premiere in December 2024, with an encore presentation during the 2025 Christmas season.
