WACO, Texas (Dec. 14, 2022) – Baylor University’s  nationally ranked Hankamer School of Business and John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise have announced the Top 50 teams for the 12th annual New Venture Competition, a business plan and elevator pitch competition that showcases collegiate student created, managed and led ventures.

The competition provides participants with personal and professional development through industry-specific mentorship towards sustainable business plans, exclusive access to accomplished experts and fellow innovators and a chance to compete for over $200,000 in cash prizes and vital resources.

Since its inception, more than 600 student entrepreneurs world-wide have applied to compete in the competition, with nearly $1 million in cash and prizes awarded to these collegiate entrepreneurs. Several BNVC finalists have had additional successes beyond the competition. Most notably, Orai (2018 second-place winner) and Nanodropper (2019 top-10 finalist) were both named to the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30.

Having passed the first round with a two-page executive summary, the Top 50 teams will submit a 10-page business plan. On March 24-25, 2023, the Top 10 teams from Round 2 will come to the Baylor campus in Waco to participate in feedback sessions and compete for the $50,000 Grand Prize. Prior to the finals, each finalist team will be paired with an experienced mentor and given opportunities for pitch coaching. At the awards banquet, the audience chooses the winners from a two-round elevation pitch competition.

“We are thankful that we are able to provide constant feedback and mentorship to the student teams,”  said Priscilla James, M.B.A. ’18, program manager for the Baugh Center at Baylor. “We want to ensure that their experience with the competition grants them more insight than they had before.”
