WACO, Texas (Sept. 20, 2022) – The Department of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation within Baylor University’s nationally ranked Hankamer School of Business has been recognized as No. 4 in the world and tops in Texas for research productivity by the TCU Global University Entrepreneurship Research Productivity Rankings from the Neely School of Business at TCU.

The research productivity rankings rate research universities based on the number of published research articles in the top three entrepreneurship journals as an indicator of academic innovation. From 2017 -2021, the Baylor entrepreneurship faculty published 22 articles in the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. As the report authors explain, “Research productivity is an important indicator of whether an entrepreneurship program follows an evidenced-based approach and demonstrates thought leadership in the discipline.”

According to Peter Klein, Ph.D., professor and chair of entrepreneurship and The W.W. Caruth Chair at Baylor, the combination of research, teaching and service are key to the program’s success. It also amplifies the University’s recent elevations as a Research 1 institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

“Our program integrates cutting-edge scientific research on entrepreneurship and innovation with the undergraduate and graduate classroom experience and our many outreach and engagement programs to help actual and prospective entrepreneurs,” Klein said.

Baylor's Department of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation has been dedicated to the study, teaching and practice of new venture creation and development for more than four decades and ranks among the top programs in the country while offering a wide variety of programs across the campus. In the 2023 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings, Baylor’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program moved up to No. 8 nationally and is the top-ranked program in Texas, ahead of the UT-Austin (No. 9), University of Houston (No. 12) and TCU (No. 25). In March, the U.S. News Best Graduate School ranking rated Baylor’s the graduate program (Ph.D.) in entrepreneurship No. 17 in the nation.
