I-35 Mainlanes to Close Thursday Night, Nightly Next Week
WACO, Texas (April 22, 2020) - To begin constructing a new north-to-southbound turnaround at I-35 and Forrest Street, crews plan overnight closures for all northbound I-35 mainlanes between MLK Boulevard and US 84 and all southbound I-35 mainlanes between US 84 and 4th/5th Streets, beginning tomorrow night and nightly next week.
In addition, crews have closed 5th Street where it crosses Dutton Avenue and connects to the northbound I-35 frontage road to reconstruct the frontage road. The roadway is anticipated to reopen later this summer.
Mainline Closure Times
- Overnight, Thursday, April 23, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Nightly, Monday, April 27 - Friday, May 1, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Detour Information
- Northbound drivers will be directed to exit at MLK Boulevard (Exit 335C) and may reenter the mainlanes north of BUS 77.
- Southbound drivers will be directed to exit at US 84/Waco Drive (Exit 338A) and may reenter the mainlanes south of 5th Street.
To keep traffic flowing and drivers safe while the mainlanes are closed, crews will also close 4th/5th Streets, University Parks Drive, MLK Boulevard, BUS 77 and US 84/Waco Drive to ALL east and westbound traffic under I-35.
Closure Times
- Overnight, Thursday, April 23, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Nightly, Monday, April 27 - Friday, May 1, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Detour Information
- East and westbound drivers will need to cross under I-35, at 17th/18th Streets, Forrest Street, Behrens Circle or N Loop 340.
