Crews to Continue Work on the I-35 Southbound Overpass at University Parks Drive and MLK Boulevard, Lane Closures Planned

WACO, Texas (Aug. 24, 2020) - With information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), we will continue to keep faculty, staff and students updated on specific I-35 construction that will impact areas around the Baylor campus. Remember to be patient and stay alert as you drive or walk near the construction zones!

Please note the following overnight I-35 construction this week near the Baylor campus:

• Starting TONIGHT at 7 p.m., TxDOT plans to close all lanes of University Parks Drive, where they cross under I-35, as crews reconstruct the southbound I-35 overpass.

• Drivers on University Parks Drive planning to cross under I-35 will need to use either 4th/5th Streets or MLK Boulevard.

• Starting TONIGHT through Wednesday, Aug. 27, crews plan to close all lanes of the northbound frontage road from 17th Street to the entrance ramp just north of 17th Street nightly for paving work.

• To keep drivers safe and traffic flowing, crews plan to close the northbound exit for 17th/18th Streets (Exit 334A) for the duration of this work.
• Local access will be maintained via 18th Street and connecting side streets in the area.
• Northbound frontage road traffic will need to use 17th/18th Streets and either BUS 77 or
  US 84/Waco Drive to reconnect with I-35.

• For overnight Thursday, Aug. 27, crews plan to close all lanes of MLK Boulevard, where they cross under I-35, overnight to set beams for the southbound I-35 overpass.

• Drivers on MLK Boulevard planning to cross under I-35 will need to use either University Parks Drive or BUS 77.
• Once this work is complete and all lanes of MLK Boulevard are open, crews will again close all lanes of University Parks Drive, where they cross under I-35, for the remainder of the night to continue reconstructing the southbound I-35 overpass.

• Crews continue to close the southbound exit for MLK Blvd/University Parks Dr./4th/5th Streets (Exit 335C) nightly for the rest of this week to reconstruct the ramp.

• Southbound mainlane traffic planning to use Exit 335C will need to exit prior at US 84/Waco Drive (Exit 338A).

Overnight Lane Closure Hours

Signage for all closures will be in place to inform and direct drivers. Schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress.
