Crews to Close Section of Northbound I-35 Mainlanes for Pavement Repair

December 15, 2020

WACO, Texas (Dec. 15, 2020) - The Texas Department of Transportation plans to repair a section of pavement on the northbound I-35 mainlanes. To prepare for this work, crews plan to close the right lane of northbound I-35 from 8th Street to just south of 5th Street tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Additionally, during this time, crews plan to intermittently close the inside northbound I-35 mainlane for short 15-minute increments. While both lanes are closed, crews will perform work on the mainlanes. Once work can stop, crews will reopen the inside mainlane and allow cars through.

To perform the pavement repair, crews plan to close all northbound mainlanes from 8th Street to just south of 5th Street Thursday, Dec. 17 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers on the northbound mainlanes will be directed to exit for 8th/4th/5th Streets/University Parks Drive (Exit #335A) and will reenter the mainlanes using the entrance ramp north of 4th Street.

While the mainlanes are closed on Thursday night, crews also plan to close all lanes of 4th and 5th Streets where they cross under the I-35 mainlanes. Drivers on 4th Street will be directed to the northbound frontage road where they can cross under I-35 at University Parks Drive, while drivers on 5th Street will be directed to the southbound I-35 frontage road where they can cross under the interstate at 18th Street. Police officers will be on site to help direct traffic for the duration of the closure.

Signage for all closures will be in place to inform and direct drivers. Schedules are dependent on weather, field conditions and work progress.
