WACO, Texas (July 10, 2018) – Amy Armstrong, executive director of philanthropic operations at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, has been named associate vice president of alumni engagement at Baylor University, announced today by Dave Rosselli, vice president for advancement. Armstrong’s appointment is effective July 23.
In this new role, Armstrong will provide strategic vision and collaborative leadership of a university-wide alumni relations program to connect and engage the Baylor alumni community. She will oversee planning, implementation and promotion of all alumni and annual giving programs, ensuring all meet diverse alumni needs, while also supporting Baylor’s Illuminate strategic plan and comprehensive campaign in collaboration with University Development and other departments across campus.
“I am passionate about faith, family and the power of education, and I am honored to be joining the Baylor Family, where I can do a job I love with people who share these same values,” Armstrong said. “President Livingstone’s bold vision during an especially meaningful time for the University’s future is exciting and compelling. I look forward to serving the University and alumni and welcome the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
“We warmly welcome Amy and her family to Baylor University,” Rosselli said. “Amy has a wealth of experience leading teams in alumni relations and annual giving and brings significant versatility with her background in advancement services and campaign operations. She will be a great asset for us as we continue to integrate our alumni engagement team within advancement.”
As executive director for philanthropic operations since 2014 at Baylor College of Medicine, Armstrong effectively joined five operational units to form the philanthropic operations team, working in a more efficient, collaborative environment as they prepared for BCM’s next capital campaign.
Prior to her work at BCM, Armstrong served as assistant vice president for alumni relations and development at Trinity University in San Antonio, leading all alumni relations and annual giving programs, as well as the special events, stewardship and advancement services teams. In addition, she served as senior director of operations and senior director of strategic planning and performance enhancement in the division of advancement at the University of North Texas in Denton.
Armstrong earned her bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from Texas Tech University in 1996, and her master of business administration degree in strategic management from the University of North Texas in 2012.
The Baylor Alumni Network develops an extensive network of constituents, including alumni, parents and friends, who grow in their knowledge, celebrate and engage with Baylor University. The Baylor Alumni Network provides a variety of opportunities for the Baylor community to come together wherever they live, work or play, helping constituents stay connected through Academic and Professional Networks, Regional Networks, Affinity Networks and the Parents Network. Baylor supporters of all ages gather for business networking, women’s groups, calls to prayer, to support athletic events and to meet other people with similar interests through the Baylor Alumni Network.
Baylor also is moving forward with implementation of Illuminate, the University’s Academic Strategic Plan, which – among its foundational Four Pillars and five Signature Academic Initiatives – includes “Give Light,” a multi-year comprehensive capital campaign to provide the resources necessary to achieve the strategic plan’s objectives.
Rosselli also thanked Sandra Lene, who served since October as interim director for alumni engagement.
“Sandra Lene has done a remarkable job while serving in an interim capacity,” Rosselli said. As Armstrong comes on board, Lene will resume her duties as associate vice president of development operations.
