WACO, Texas (May 31, 2013) - Although it may seem that Baylor's campus is in hibernation during the summer months, it is still filled with students participating in summer camps. Starting the first week of June, students of all ages will be attending camps to develop their skills in sports, scholastics and music.
The Lady Bears will be hosting camps throughout June, starting June 9 with individual camps designed to hone basketball skills for girls grades 6 through 12.
The advanced skills camp is a two-day event starting June 13, in which girls grades 9 through 12 will learn more difficult basketball techniques.
Younger girls grades 2 through 7 will learn the fundamentals of basketball in day camps, offered June 24 through 27.
Baylor football will be touring Texas to host day camps during June, making stops in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and east Texas. There will be additional day camps throughout the summer at Baylor. Events are open to all high school students, except the July 19 "In the Trenches" camp and skill position mini camp, which are only open to juniors and seniors.
Academic summer programs include the Renaissance Scholar Program, which helps high school seniors interested in pre-health areas learn about the ethical issues in their prospective fields. This program will run June 9 through 15.
The School of Engineering and Computer Science will also host a camp June 9 through 15, as well as camps June 16 through 22 and June 23 through 29. This camp gives rising seniors the opportunity to learn about mechanical, aerospace and electrical engineering, and about the opportunities a major in engineering gives them.
Not to be forgotten are the arts. From June 4 through July 13, Baylor's School of Music offers summer programs for middle school and high school students, as well as adults. The aim of these camps is to improve talent with the pipe organ, piano, flute, voice, band and orchestra.
