WACO, Texas (March 20, 2013) - The School of Music at Baylor University will host the award-winning Peabody Trio as the final performance in this year's Distinguished Artist Series. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Roxy Grove Hall in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave.
The trio is composed of violinist Violaine Melançon, cellist Natasha Brofsky and pianist Seth Knopp, all of whom are faculty members at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Md. The ensemble first came to the forefront of chamber music in 1989 when it won the Naumburg Chamber Music Award. Since then, it has toured throughout the United States and abroad, with repeat performances in Japan, Israel and the United Kingdom.
"Now in their 25th year, the Peabody Trio is one of today's most prominent piano trios - that is, a chamber music group for violin, cello and piano," said Richard Veit, the concert and promotion manager for the School of Music at Baylor University. "The Baylor concert will feature masterworks by Beethoven and Schubert, as well as a modern work that was written for them by Israeli composer Shulamit Ran."
In addition to the concert, members of the trio will present two Lyceum Series master classes at 9 a.m. Friday, March 22. The first master class will take place in the Blackbox Opera Theater near the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. The second class will be given in Euell Porter Hall, Room 114 of the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. These classes are free and open to the public.
Tickets for the Distinguished Artist Series concert are $15 for general admission and $10 for Baylor faculty, staff or students. They can be purchased in person at the Baylor University School of Music box office or by clicking here.
