WACO, Texas (Dec. 5, 2012) - Members of Baylor University's award-winning Model United Nations team received recognition for their exemplary performance in the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago Nov. 16-20, 2012.

While representing the delegation of Iceland, 13 Baylor students competed alongside more than 1,000 students from universities across the United States. Six Baylor students were named as members of "Outstanding Delegations," the highest award given at Model United Nations conferences. Tiffany Clark, an international relations graduate student, garnered further acclaim for the university when she was named president of the conference's International Court of Justice.

"One of our common goals under Pro Futuris is 'informed engagement,' and educational experiences such as Model United Nations help advance this goal," said Rebecca Flavin, lecturer of political science in the university's College of Arts & Sciences and the faculty advisor for Baylor Model United Nations. "As a part of their preparation for conferences, students research myriad problems facing the international community and work alongside students from other universities to propose solutions to issues."

Since it was founded in 1989, Baylor Model United Nations has established a reputation of excellence at national conferences. In addition to numerous awards for position papers and exemplary individual delegates, the team has gained recognition as an "Outstanding Delegation" for two consecutive years at the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York, one of the largest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN conferences.
