Concert To Benefit American Red Cross Sept. 28 At Baylor

The Baylor University School of Music will present a memorial concert to benefit the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall. The concert, in honor of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and Pennsylvania will consist of reflective and inspirational music.
Among those participating will be faculty soloists from the School of Music, members of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, and other choral and instrumental ensembles, as well as reciters from the departments of theater and English.
String players from the Baylor Symphony Orchestra will perform Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings," the A Cappella Choir will sing "Lonesome Valley" and members of the Wind Ensemble will present "Amazing Grace" and "America, the Beautiful."
Faculty musicians will include pianists Jane Abbott-Kirk and Elvia Puccinelli with the Adagio movement from Bach's Concerto for Two Keyboards and the "Tears" movement from Rachmaninoff's Suite No. 1.
Hornist Jeffrey Powers will play "Reflections on a Southern Hymn," and bassist Chris Buddo and pianist Brian Marks will offer the Andante cantabile movement from Adolf Misek's Sonata in E minor. Marks will also play two Chopin mazurkas and, with oboist Doris DeLoach, the Fantasy on "Ville du Havre" by Baylor's former professor of composition, the late Richard Willis.
Vocalists taking part will be lyric baritones Jack Coldiron and Robert Best, both of whom will be accompanied by Puccinelli.
