Ralph Nader to Speak at Baylor Nov. 21
WACO, Texas - Ralph Nader, a pioneer in consumer education who has authored or edited many books on consumer, labor, pollution, corporate and political topics, will speak at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in Jones Theater of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center at Baylor University.
Nader's lecture, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Roy B. Albaugh Phi Beta Kappa Lectureship.
Time magazine named Nader one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century. His civic leadership, starting with the book, Unsafe At Any Speed, about the world automobile industry in 1965, has led to many federal and state laws establishing life-saving, health and safety standards in the consumer, environmental and workplace sectors.
He has started more citizen groups, including the student public interest research group, operating in more than 20 states; the Center for Auto Safety; Public Citizen; Pension Rights Center; and the Coalition for Universities in the Public Interest. When asked what he does, Nader answers, "building democracy" for all citizens, and points to the Freedom of Information Act of 1974 as one of his proudest achievements.
